Life of a SAHM (Stay-at-Home Mom)

It has been more than a year since I have been a full time mom. It is an entirely different experience from being a career woman for 13 years. I am thankful to my supportive husband because not all moms are given the chance to stay-at-home and care for their child. It was a long and hard decision for us because I am on the peak of my banking career and it would also affect our finances. But all things lead us to making that decision — we could not find a suitable househelper/yaya for Reilly and Gheoff got promoted.

Gheoff took me on a date on my last day of work – November 29, 2018.

The first few days of being a SAHM is very tiring. I usually start my day at 5am to cook breakfast and Gheoff’s baon then my day ends at 1am the following day. House chores are unlimited! Then I got used to it and was able to follow a schedule. Days passed and I was able to squeeze in working out at the gym while Reilly is in school. This kept me sane and became my ‘me’ time amidst all the house work.

Few months into being a SAHM, the biggest surprise of our life happened — I became pregnant with baby #2 without any medication (read: details on a separate blog)! I think this became possible because I got rid of work stress and I became active in working out. I also lost a few pounds which is good for PCOS individuals who are trying to conceive.

Being a working mom and being a stay-at-home mom has its own pros and cons and should not be compared as to which is better. Both moms do their work for the love and for the future of their family. My favorite part of being a SAHM is not having free time, but being able to take care of my family, spend time with my children and witnessing every milestone in their lives. Giving up my career in exchange of everything I have now is definitely worth it.

Review: Kiele Anti-Mosquito Baby Cologne & Cibelli Alcohol free baby cologne

I’ve come across Kiele products when Reilly was gifted with a bottle of anti-mosquito baby cologne. Since then, it has been a staple in Reilly’s after bath and before bed grooming products.

Kiele’s products are made with natural ingredients. The Cibelli Alcohol free baby cologne (Php 175 for 100ml) has french essences and natural fragrant oils which capture the citrusy zest of a sunny lemon grove. It’s alcohol free so it’s best even on sensitive skin. The Anti-mosquito baby cologne (Php 209 for 120ml) can be used as an everyday cologne and mosquito repellent. It has a unique scent and the freshness lasts throughout the day. Best for active toddlers like mine. 😉

On Motherhood

For me, being a mom is the most wonderful thing in the world. I remember the moment when I learned I was pregnant with our daughter, Reilly. I am so overjoyed that I cried especially since my husband and I went through a lot to have a baby because I was diagnosed with severe Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Having a child is really a blessing. Being a mom for more than two years (from the time I was pregnant) has taught me life’s greatest lessons as well.

Motherhood is beautiful, but it is not always easy. You will laugh. You will cry. You will become paranoid and upset. Looking at your newborn sleeping is heavenly. Going through the first weeks of breastfeeding is a struggle.

Motherhood is a lifetime commitment. I see myself guiding my daughter as long as I live. I know she will need me even if she will have a family of her own. I know it because when I became a Mom, that’s the time I realized that I need my mom more than anyone in the world to ask for help and advices.

Motherhood is a 24/7 job. Someone will be waking you up in the middle of the night to ask for milk. Never having to go night trips to the bathroom to pee without hearing a little girl cry at the top of her lungs. No matter how tired you get, you still have to attend to all of her needs. More than having a 9 to 5 job, being a mom entails giving all of your time to your little one. Even if it means never having time alone for yourself.

Motherhood is discovering strengths you didn’t know you had. I need to be strong for everything. She needs to see that I will be her source of strength too.

Motherhood is being selfless. It’s about not eating that last piece of fries because it’s her favorite. Telling her it’s ok to eat more of your food because you are already full even when you’re still hungry. Passing on a gathering with friends because no one will take care of your child. It means putting your child first before your own self.
